A cooktop is one of those pieces of equipment that not only add beauty to your kitchen but also improve the effectiveness of the cooking process. In simple terms, it is an equipment that is independent of a cooking stove. There are many categorizations of cooktops, and the following are some of the most common ones

Gas cooktops

There are quite common in the market, and most of them either use propane or natural gas. Most chefs prefer these types of cooktops as they make it easy to control the temperatures and the speed of cooking. You can also monitor the flame, which makes them pretty popular among professionals in this field. The only downside with the older models is that their burners are somehow hard to clean, which makes maintenance a challenge.

Induction cooktops

These appliances are powered by electricity, but they use electromagnets to prepare the food. The device places electromagnets below a smooth cooking service, which in turn generates resistance when electricity passes through it. These types of cooktops combine the best features of both gas and electric cooktops. There is no benefit of the doubt as they are also environmentally friendly, unlike others that emit substances that make life miserable.

Electric cooktops

Just as the name suggests, these types of appliances use electricity to prepare foods. There are more environmentally friendly when compared to their gas counterparts. They come in two main versions, which are a sophisticated smooth top or a coil. Some of their major drawbacks are that they take longer to heat and cool the cooking surface, which is not ideal if you are on a rush. There is a limitation on the type of cookware that you can use as they most require those that are flat-bottomed.

Downdraft cooktops

These type of appliances come with fans that are placed at counter-level. The position of the fan does not matter as it can be fitted on the top of cooktop, in the center, on the side or behind the burners. The only downside is that they are not good at ventilating fumes and smoke as compared to traditional ones.

There may be other classifications when it comes to cooktops, but the above are the main ones. There are also some that may combine two technologies to make the cooking experience more efficient.
